Spectral Characteristics of Biomimetic Micro-Nano Structures Derived from Saharan Silver Ants—A Simulation Study

Proper selections of microwave-transmitting thermal control materials play key roles in the orbit operations aerospace microwave detectors. Currently, white paint and germanium-coated polyimide film are common choices for control, which have been extensively studied from perspective material compositions, ignoring influence micro-nano structure on surface material. Inspired by Saharan silver ants relying structures hairs heat protection dissipation, this paper, based finite element simulation, spectral characteristics (e.g., solar absorptance infrared emissivity) three types biomimetic including pyramid, tetrahedron, triangular prism) were compared. Simulation results revealed that these mainly regulated tip height air gap; decrease led to emissivity; was decreased, emissivity increased with increase gap.
